Connie Blum: “I was so impressed I knew I had to support Christendom College.”

Connie BlumGift Plan: Bequest

Connie Blum, one of several Christendom College benefactors seizing the opportunity to dedicate a window in the new Christ the King Chapel, selected Mother Teresa of Calcutta for her window dedication. Here are excerpts from a recent interview with Philanthropy Officer David Costanzo:

What do you love most about Christendom?

When you showed me the record (as of January 2017) of graduates who had decided to devote their lives to God and the incredible percentage of marriages that were still intact, I was so impressed I knew I had to support Christendom College.

Why does helping build the new Christ the King Chapel inspire you?

When I learned that the College had outgrown the original Chapel and had to build a larger one (a problem that I suspect few Catholic colleges face today), it gave me great hope for the future of our Catholic Church and our country.

What inspired you to choose St. Teresa of Calcutta for your dedicated window?

I have always admired people who do things that I never could, such as working with the “untouchables” in India, which is why I was so aware of Mother Teresa. Ave Maria University has a small museum dedicated to her, and visiting the museum cemented my admiration for her. While I can't do heroic deeds, I can write out a check; and I think that is the least that God expects me to do.

Editor’s Note: Residing in Venice, Florida, after an active life, Connie recently established, through a bequest in her will, The Constance Schifflin Blum Endowed Scholarship fund at Christendom College to provide vital support for students.
